It is said that the Chinese will often plant a ginkgo when a baby is born for a long and healthy life. A few ginkgo trees survived the Hiroshima atomic blast in 1945 and still exist today, a testament to their resilience and a symbol of hope and peace.
They are a hardy species that existed millions of years ago are are known as living fossils. When visiting Japan one summer, I loved seeing beautiful ginkgo trees flourishing along the sidewalks with their golden yellow leaves fluttering in the breeze.
